Red maca (Lepidium meyenii), the rarest of the three colour varieties the tuber grows in — yellow, red and black — grown exclusively at high altitude in the mountains of Peru. It has a caramel-nutty flavour rather than the more common earthy, bitter root taste, and one ingredient makes up the whole pack.

Maca held a sacred place for the Incas, who used it historically for nourishment and in traditional preparations. This is the red variety specifically, distinct from the more commonly seen yellow.

Mix half a level tablespoon (5g) into water, juice, a smoothie, yoghurt or cereal. Gluten-free and vegan, packed in a facility that also processes soy, dairy and tree nuts. Available in 100g and 1kg sizes.
