Six ingredients make up each capsule of Therapeia's flagship turmeric formula: organic turmeric powder (300mg), organic curcumin 95% (100mg), organic frankincense extract 10:1 (100mg), organic white willow extract 10:1 (100mg), organic ginger powder (50mg) and organic black pepper powder (5mg), all in a vegan vegetable capsule. It's built as a combination formula rather than plain turmeric — curcumin, one of turmeric's many active compounds, is added on top of the whole-root powder to concentrate that particular constituent, since curcumin makes up only a fraction of turmeric by weight.
Frankincense here comes from Boswellia resin, concentrated to a 10:1 extract, and has a long history of use in traditional medicine systems alongside turmeric. White willow bark is included at the same 10:1 concentration — its main active compound, salicin, is chemically related to salicylate, the compound aspirin was originally developed from, which is why willow bark has a long traditional history as a pain-easing herb. Ginger and black pepper are both added specifically to support absorption: piperine, the active compound in black pepper, has been shown to improve uptake of turmeric's phytonutrients, and ginger shares the same plant family (Zingiberaceae) as turmeric.
Because of the white willow content, this formula needs a bit more care than a plain turmeric capsule — anyone sensitive to salicylates or aspirin, or taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines, should seek professional advice before use, and it's not suitable for children.
