Product Overview
A staple food for the Incan, Mayan and Aztec cultures alongside corn and beans — the word "chia" comes from the Mayan word for strength. Sourced from South America and packed in Australia, these are a true wholegrain, unrefined seed.
The protein in chia is a complete protein carrying all 8 essential amino acids, unusual for a plant-based source, alongside essential fatty acids including omega-3, soluble fibre, various vitamins and minerals. Mixed with liquid it forms a distinctive gel, useful in puddings, smoothies and baking.
Chia also comes in white, sold separately in the Nature First range, along with a blend of both. There's little nutritional or taste difference between the two colours — it comes down to preference. White chia tends to disappear into a dish, where black chia stays visible.
Ingredients
