The colour is doing the work. Fungus gnats, whiteflies and similar flying pests are drawn to a particular shade of yellow, and these strips are printed in it - which is why they catch insects without any bait, spray or scent involved.
Each strip is bright yellow cardstock with plant-safe adhesive on both sides, so the capture area is doubled and there is no wrong way to place one. Peel off the backing paper, then push the strip into the soil, clip it to a plant stake, or set it low near the base of the plant where the gnats actually fly.
Beyond catching adults, they tell you what is happening. A strip that fills up quickly is a signal to look at watering and soil moisture; a clean one after a fortnight means the problem has passed. That makes them as useful for monitoring as for control, particularly around seedlings and propagation setups where a spray would do more harm than the pest.
Twenty strips come in a reusable metal tin, which keeps the unused ones dust-free and sticky - a sticky trap that has sat open in a drawer catches nothing. Replace a trap when the surface is covered, dusty or no longer tacky.
The adhesive is genuinely strong, so keep it away from hair, skin, clothing, children and pets. Indoor use - rain and wind will finish them off outdoors.
Materials
Bright yellow cardstock with double-sided plant-safe adhesive, protective backing paper, and a reusable metal storage tin.
Directions
Peel off the protective paper to expose the adhesive on both sides of the strip. Place the trap directly into the soil, hang it from a plant stake, or position it close to the base of the plant where flying pests are active. Replace traps when the surface is covered in insects, dusty, or no longer sticky. For ongoing pest management, keep traps in place continuously and refresh as needed.
Storage
Store unused strips inside the supplied tin, away from heat, dust and direct sunlight. Keep sealed when not in use to maintain adhesive strength.
Warnings
Keep out of reach of children and pets. Avoid contact with hair, skin and clothing - adhesive is very sticky. Not suitable for outdoor use in direct rain or high wind. Dispose of used traps in household rubbish.
