Pea protein has a reputation for chalkiness, and this one is built to get around it. Golden Canadian peas are blended with acacia fibre and coconut milk powder, which is what gives the shake its creamy body rather than the gritty texture plant proteins are known for.
The chocolate comes from cocoa powder with natural flavours, a pinch of Himalayan rock salt to lift it, and a sweetener blend of stevia and thaumatin rather than sugar. Each serve provides 23 g of protein.
A serve is about 35 g into 225-250 mL of water or plant milk, shaken or blended. It also stirs through oats, blends into a smoothie, and holds up in baking - protein balls, muffins, anything where a plain unflavoured powder would leave the mixture tasting of nothing.
The formula is vegan, gluten free, dairy free and nut free, which covers most household exclusions. One caution for severe allergies: it is made in a facility that also handles peanuts, almonds, cashews, hazelnuts and soy.
